Muscle Related Pain
Typically results from overwork, tension or fatigue in the muscles of the jaw, head and neck. It can be brought on because of physical exertion such as clenching or grinding. Another influence may be psychological factors from the stresses of day to day living.
Jaw Joint Related Pain
Usually is caused by inflammation, disease or degeneration of the hard or soft tissues within the temporomandibular joint. Disc dislocation and degenerative arthritis are the most common bony disorders of the temporomandibular joint.
